grumbles at snooty pot-shots before eyes roll into skull seeing “Brooklyn, NY” At least we have top-notch fire ecologists… and water… I guess…
LOL. In the market for electric air pumps and cell signal boosters (unrelated), and boy-golly-gee eBay has some wild discounts from suppliers. 'OEM' products are marked down by 75% from very highly rated companies boasting very similar marketing for said products. One guess for where 'Country of Origin/Manufacturing' is on these products. A couple items not listed in the article I linked (due to recency) was Iran's recent discovery of lithium, who - and I'm no expert - I would think be more amenable to trade relations to China due to a 'New Silk Road' deal in 2019. That's only from a cursory glance.... it also seems like Taliban might stop ghosting China's $10bn 'U up?' texts about the deposit found in Afghanistan. So Silk Road 2: Electric Boogaloo doesn't look that far-fetched. Sidenote, thanks for the book rec.I was rather taken aback when I figured out how brazen China's take on capitalism was.
The 4th largest renewable energy developer in the world has it's North American HQ in Houston. The largest renewable energy developer in the world was planning on building it's manufacturing/shipyard for off-shore turbine distribution to source the NE off-shore wind-farms in Galveston. Never a dull moment in the United States.
Up in the air whether I can, but I will make the effort.
This is… movement I am hopeful for? I think I’ve cleared the doomerism hurdle at last. Expanding the house would dramatically change how gerrymandering plays out - at least to start. This doesn’t seem an unreasonable ask, logic-wise. Of course, logistics required and political inertia at present would argue otherwise without internal movement in the house. Thank you for bringing on my radar as something to dig in to. Gotta say, I’m way more optimistic than I have a right to be when I see democratic progressives speak. Though, it could be since I’m puzzling out my own out if things turn out for the better. While I’m not clear on the specifics, thank you for putting in the time to advance these.
Only goes up from here, right? Haha… right? 🙃
Way to make that lateral move. Only a couple from my GIS cohort wants to stay in GIS. It seems the natural progressions are (1) become data specialists/DB admins/Architects or (2) transition to manager in field of interest that GIS afforded exposure to. With this in mind, is it fair to state your interest is management/consultation of sustainable transit? Is there an emphasis on type of transit or what aspect of sustainability? Asking since I have a relatable experience in the field you transitioned out of (great job, btw), and I want to understand if there is overlap between in your role now and interests of EU companies I’ve done work with for renewables. Not because I have an in per se, but hoping to provide an adjacent field to consider. Also, jfc, kb’s first two paragraphs sums up some key realizations I had during my time between jobs recently that I am still sorting through. After your response, I’ll see if I can collate relevant advice from my time job hunting to add to that.
Well shit, you’re right. I was huffing hopium with the Senate majority.
He can’t announce until the Republican FL congress amends the “resign to run” law that is in place for Florida politicians. Otherwise, there is a vacancy. It looks kooky from the outside looking in as he teases people during his (literal) world-tour. He’s busy admiring the cherry blossoms in Japan while we’re still dealing with the aftermath of freak flooding in South Florida. Not aware of the gaffes mentioned, but I saw him start to get negative press across the spectrum of news stations last week. That, coupled with the Disney law suit that dropped today makes me excited to be wrong about his primary bid. Hanging in there has been a weird ride. Really enjoyed the videos in your trip report. Making me long for something other than flat, forest and bogs. Anywho, we’ll see how this serious season pans out. Sending patience your way for dealing with Abbott et al. o7
Biden packing the court any day now would be dope… He said he wouldn’t early on, but that’s what I’ll be dreaming of tonight.
Mind if I ask whether you want to stay in transit GIS, and what level of seniority are you at now (e.g. specialist, project manager, etc.)
Happy to serve just that, too.
Agreed on your first point. The GOP machine seems to have picked their favorite to back for quite some time. Purposely deleted a few lines in my op about the 'Thai' test... I expected some fresh takes or nuance from Last Week Tonight (where I was exposed to this). I was let down when they leaned into obscure potshots at his character. Granted, it's a comedy show at heart... but I'm beyond the thinking that the public really needs to be swayed on character before they decide how they vote - or that these pieces of information have any bearing in the political realm at all. A main gripe I have with center/center-left media and reddit is the same rhetoric was/is used with Trump, and it implies tests of character have meaning in the politics today. We still got Trump. Not shocked about the principal... a large amount of what I have outlined is centered around the push to reform education as a means to sway the future population. There's your sneak preview.
Relatively short notice guests for 2 weekends in a row. 🫠
Ya won’t regret it. I might end up slipping into Kuang’s “Poppy War” trilogy after Beasts of a Little Land.
Great movie for discussion with friends afterwards over food. RRR is great for absolutely popping off mid-scene with friends and getting a noise complaint from neighbors.
Glad you enjoyed the weather and cruise! I keep hearing pricing has never been better. As for Miami itself, that place instills new fears into those formerly in blissful ignorance.
Please read this as sincerely & un-sarcastic as humanly possible: Thank you for the reminder.
Really appreciate the words. I’m still weighing the two in my mind, especially your question. Oddly, it may not matter. I was told at the end of the interview they were interviewing the last couple candidates in two weeks… With that in mind, I’m assuming I’m boned, no matter how impressed they were with my under of the industry. Recency bias is unusually strong for interviews.
That comment is what earned me my next badge [to give] after a long time. Guess it all worked out. ... or mk could let us by badges finally. /s
Mike, this is incredible. Thank you so much, I’m sending this to my buds.
Bookmarked.
Great connection, thanks for sharing. Didn’t know of this - and both research articles were published in Nature.
