First of all, this isn't r/theredpill.

I suspect most women would be happy not to have to shoulder the sole responsibility for non-condom birth control. Of course, for casual hookups barriers are still a must.

The question is, what will we do?

Document and expose leaders and members of these organizations. Tell their employers, tell their friends, family and neighbours. Stop their income, take down their websites and communication channels. Infiltrate, sow discord, steal their weapons. Rob them. The list goes on.

As HTML5 has hit its stride, we’ve been lucky enough to receive abominations like parallax scrolling, social media buttons everywhere, loading screens for no apparent reason and scrolljacking.

snort

Probably should have hosted it in a less obnoxious place to better get the point across. But then again there is already http://motherfuckingwebsite.com/

Nitpick: the article talks about the Web, not the internet.

ixnar  ·  3121 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: How would you stop mass shootings?

Some gun owners seem to have this idea of armed revolution being a good idea, but yeah... Besides, the era where small arms alone were any good for that sort of thing is long gone.

It's harder to get a ham radio license than it is to buy a gun in the US. Just think about that for a moment. Access to the RF spectrum is considered a privilege, access to weapons is considered a right..

Finally, it's sad that no one in the US mainstream seems to care about mental illness until something like a shooting happens

Good to see new RSS/Atom tools. Means people still want the Web decentralized

ixnar  ·  2195 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Why do young men worship Professor Jordan Peterson?

Because he's an antifeminist, and there's nothing sad young men like more than blaming their problems on women

Truly the mark of the alpha male is getting upset about women being major characters in moving pictures.

ixnar  ·  3168 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Did you ever say "I could do that" when looking at some modern art?

Recently I've gotten to know a few artists, and I get the feeling pathos is vastly more important than the actual mechanics in art. But then there's also some artists using things like Arduinos to control mechanical or electronic amalgamations (locally: a pile of old CRT televisions), so maybe the "my kid could paint that" is more indicative of a move away from canvas? Maybe someone in the art world can shed some light on this

I also spy a bottle of O.P. Anderson in the background

Yes, she is. Do you think the strikers during the Industrial Revolution had it easier?

ixnar  ·  3231 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Men's contraceptive pills are coming.

Some of the women admitted that they had not used birth control with guys who had appealing characteristics

Good thing I'm appalling!

But more seriously, giving the same kind of power to men simply levels the playing field. Soon both partners need to be completely honest with each other whether to become parents. Despite the FUD you're trying to sling the article even indicates that a majority of women would support this. And as the article points out, few women are overly keen on single motherhood either way.

"Before crime is committed" is a funny way of saying "innocent". Western politicians will no doubt act like they think these are grave injustices, while simultaneously pushing for similar systems in the EU

ixnar  ·  3492 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Why Facebook and Google's Concept of 'Real Names' Is Revolutionary

My current experience is that pseudonymity works pretty well, especially if you can see how old each pseudonym is. The author also assumes people won't behave like dicks if using their legal name, but experience shows otherwise.

Yep, DRM is about power and being able to screw consumers over

This is reminding me that I have yet to donate to the EFF 😔

ixnar  ·  3178 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: How yuppies hacked the original hacker ethos

Oh, the irony of the author claiming that the hacker spirit is still alive by citing makerspaces as an example, rather than realizing they are the commercialized/"de-fanged" version of the hackerspace. Which isn't to say they're bad, just subtly different. And a bit appropriate-y

ixnar  ·  3215 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Pluto in Full color

I imagine it looks a bit like how the Earth looks from the surface of the moon - undulating around a fixed point in the sky. In fact you can see for yourself if you install Celestia. Go to a point on Pluto from which Charon is visible, track Pluto's orbit (Y), enable Options->Show Grids->Grid: Horizontal, accelerate time (L) and you should see Charon bobbing up and down about 20° along the ecliptic.
