A Les Paul for blues and a PRS CU24 for carnatic.

Thanks for the explanation. I am still a beginner and even more so in theory. I have to read this a few times to get it. But I like any feedback that helps me learn

Nope. What are chord substitutions?

To grab sandwiches from Jihadis?

I am reminded of Brahminy kites stealing food from students in school. Sometimes grabbing it off hands (we had scratches to prove it).

Sure this one is #reddit but how do I decide what to tag each different post as. Relying on submitters to categorize posts is unlikely to work well

I think that is just strings muted. The low E not muted very well that is all.

I was mesmerized by the waves and did not notice any of these. Pluck ans strum ok. How can you tell if it is a harmonic? (how much time into the video should I look for it?)

EDIT: By harmonic do you mean the two E strings?

I recommend the documentary "South of the Border"

Learn skills like playing guitar with no real teacher.

hrishim  ·  4052 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Would someone explain the how and why Spain is divided culturally?

I dont know. When I visited Barcelona on a business trip I could make out an undercurrent of dissatisfaction among Catalans. The folks I worked with were a mix of local Catalans and Spaniards (I am using these terms merely to distinguish the local population from the rest of the country, not suggesting Catalans are not Spaniards).

We hung out in the evenings and maybe one Sat. At one of the places we visited (I cant remember which) a Catalan in the group remarked "this place is our ground zero " (as in the 9/11 ground zero) but the non-Catalans sort of dismissed the comment. There was a little tension, enough that I thought it would be impolite to probe.

From my brief "research" just post visit (more than 6 years ago) I suspect the tensions may have arisen because Catalan culture was suppressed during the reign of Franco. If I remember right the nationalist govt under Franco wanted to build a unifying national identity for Spain. Interestingly, classes at UPC are conducted in Catalan, Spanish, as well as English.

hrishim  ·  4055 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Black Folk Don't: Tip

Hmm...the only reason I tip is because if I dont it makes me look bad.

I would rather that restaurants pay their employees well. I am willing to pay more for my food. but I would like to see the price on the menu. Not have to guess - should I leave X or Y (how was the service?, what should I compare it with ? etc).

In India, several restaurants have started adding a "service charge" (not service tax - that goes to the government) to the bill. This charge varies between 10-15% depending on the restaurant. This is pretty much the tip. It would be easier if that amount is added to the cost they display on the menu card.

I understand the 12-bar blues. But I cannot recognize chords by ear. Should I keep count or develop recognizing chords ?
