It really says something about a person who can evaluate this behavior and decide "I'm doing nothing wrong".
The section about transferable machine guns leaves out the most important reason these weapons aren't used in more crimes: they cost at least $10k to acquire. The much maligned AR-15 can be had for $500. A shitty Hi-Point 9mm can be had for a third of that. It seems like the author can't help but include a red herring about hollow-point bullets, magazine capacities, and the much-maligned AR-15 (the most popular modern sporting rifle sold in the US). He does later admit that Liberals overemphasize banning 'assault weapons' instead of more effective interventions, but undercuts this point by admitting that he still has it out for the AR-15. Notably missing from this mish-mash of good and bad proposals is any sort of economic analysis of the causes of (white, rural) suicide or (black, urban) homicide. However, that might engender accusations of racism, classism, and other forms of Liberal intolerance, and distract from the All in all, his central thesis that we need to come to terms with the reality that there will continue to be 400m privately-owned firearms in the US is key to having a more productive national conversation about reducing gun violence.
There are so many obvious reasons to be in favor of DC statehood, but I'm particularly excited for the opportunity for a totally urban state to be represented at the national level. Cities are structurally underrepresented in state and national politics, despite being the economic engines of our country. The creation of our first city-state could have significant long term benefits for the citizens of every city in the country.
Congrats. I hope it gets you everywhere you want to go. I recently determined that I've driven mine fewer than 750 miles in the last 5 months. What a year.
The solution is removing cars from places where people are. That can mean separated, protected infrastructure for cyclists and pedestrians. Or it can simply mean car-free streets where people can get around in safety however they please.
It's a common fantasy for certain people to threaten to 'move to Canada' after unfavorable election results. What do folks here think about this method of 'voting with your feet' to move somewhere that is already better aligned with your core principles, as opposed to slogging it out where you currently are?
If we trick them into becoming productive members of the community first, isn't that just a win-win?
You don't have to be an expert to see through this as the sham that it is. Are we really to believe that they have hundreds of millions of dollars in USD reserve? Their US bank accounts have been cut off. Their own Terms of Service specifically say that Tether is not redeemable for USD, for goodness sake!
I think it's probably a new factory for Apple:
Trigger warning: liberal heresy Gender is a socially-constructed hierarchy. Self-identification as a different gender does not change your assigned role in the gender hierarchy. Trans men/women are not real men/women.
If you're going to buy an Android phone, don't buy it from your carrier!
Andreessen Horowitz is the name of a venture capital firm, not a single person. Their strategy is definitely to latch onto a popular site, and squeeze out the profit by cranking up the advertisements.
As a student, there's nothing you'll be doing that can't be done in LibreOffice. You shouldn't have to use either the junk that Apple includes, or pay money for Microsoft Word.
You can't convince someone that the world isn't a terrible place, because it is. At best, the world is meaningless, because good and bad are just subjective judgments. The only productive reaction is to accept this meaninglessness, and move on. There are more interesting things to think about, some you can even do something about.
I've been on this site a whole lot longer than you have, and I've only run into toxic users a handful of times. I simply don't see them, because I don't follow them. I can passively filter out low quality users by following a carefully selected group of other discerning users. In an extreme case, I can actively filter out negative users, although I have yet to need these tools.
I'm completely willing to agree that both mobile web browsers, and most websites are terrible. See my post before this one:
The problem in Denmark is that the punishment isn't even necessarily vigilante murder, but also state-sanctioned incarceration. There is no legal right in Denmark to "say whatever you want to say" if someone claims to be insulted or offended. This has an incredibly chilling effect on the public discourse, and gives a free pass to dangerous anti-Western ideologies.
Go for it bro.ski
TOS aside, Dropbox has a worse track record of protecting user data than Google. For years they made misleading claims about the encryption of stored data. They also experienced a notorious authentication breach which allowed free access to any dropbox account. I wouldn't trust any cloud provider with sensitive data unless I'm encrypting it on my own machine with my own key. I recommend services like Wuala or Crashplan for supporting this kind of security.
They introduced games to increase the time spent on the site. This only brought endless amounts of spam from in-game promotions. They introduced the news stream to staunch the flow to Twitter. Now my FB homepage is full of crap about other people I don't care about. On G+, I don't add every person I've ever met. I follow people I think are interesting. They have no obligation to follow me in return, unlike the forced 'friendships' of facebook. I've been using social networks less and less over the last five years, and facebook's constant 'upgrades' have only hastened that process.
- To their creators, memes featuring real people aren't personal
This is the most accurate analysis of 'the dark side of memes' that you'll ever read. These image macros have nothing to do with their photographic subjects. In almost every other case, the person pictured has been dramatically different than their macro character. The ditsy girl is actually very smart. The lazy freshman is actually hard working. To become defensive and infuriated at finding yourself the subject of an image macro just proves your unfamiliarity with internet culture. Announcing your ignorance to the world will certainly attract personal scorn like nothing else.
In all seriousness, such a drastic imposed change to the culture of the site could be devastating.
