I'm back.

Doing... not too good. I dropped out of the university and effectively stuck in a limbo of sorts. I have very little money left - enough to buy me another week's worth of scarce food and not nearly enough to pay the rent. Right now, I need to raise $200 (monthly rent) just to be able to stay where I am. The landlord is not the most compassionate person, so if I don't have the money, I'm out onto the street.

This whole situation makes my depression explode. I feel a lot of things right now. Mosty - fear of failure. I feel like I will have to accept that I'm a failure because I can't find any income because I'm a failure because I can't find any income... Recursive, reductive nonsense clouding my head.

But Hubski is a good place. I've had my share of conflicts here, but people have always been appreciative, intelligent and eloquent about their thoughts and feelings. I appreciate that. That is something I'd like to have more of in my life right now: a good company.

There's no job in Russia that could possibly yield me $200 in two weeks (barring drug trafficking), so I'm looking for freelance options or full-time online work abroad. If you know anyone who needs

- Russian < > English translation, interpreting or tutoring,

- writing (of most sorts): fiction, newspapers, blogs etc.

- screenplays (or similar plot/dialogue/worldbuilding writing)

- web design and/or front-end development

please let me know.

So much wrong with what the author says.

I'm not even going to bother providing specific quotes. "Games are awful, and young men are getting absorbed by them instead of being productive members of society" is the tone the article takes while exploring nothing. It's not journalism: it's a "look at my superiority complex" contest.

Funny thing, though: the embedded article - "Why more young men aren't working - video games" - uses the photo of a guy playing pre-2016 Dota 2 that's on the monitor, blurred. I'm gonna pull a Devac and tell you that because, even in the thumbnail, I can clearly recognize the death info screen with one of the game's heroes', Slark's, face plastered all over it. Plus all the small things: the old HUD, for example. But also he's not even playing it: it's a Twitch stream of a guy playing Sniper or something while the ads and the donation count run alongside the interface.

Anyway. "Video games are the plague of this generation" is a sentiment people too old to understand or engage in it espouse when they can't be bothered to produce any meaningful thought on the subject. George Carlin during his last HBO special (after his 70th birthday, might I add) said that people can be old when they're thirty, blabbering and complaining about things as a way to justify their miserable existence.

There are things wrong with video games as an industry currently - but providing escapism and Internet-level international communication are not some of them.

I'm just going to add NYPost to the list of "newspapers" to ignore. Thanks for letting me know.

The title sounds like a randomly-generated garble of modern consumerist nouns.

Nobody really fights around here anymore.

This gives me an idea:

Verbal Kombat!

where contestants are given a topic they aren't very good at, and one who argues the best wins... some sort of a drawn trophy to put into the bio.

I saw him give profit sharing to his employees, even in the lean years. I saw him offer tuition reimbursement and I saw him continue to pay terminally ill employees well after they left his charge.

There is something about this that I find grand, so unbelievably huge for a person to hold forth.

Your Opa sounds like an amazing person. You are so very lucky to had him in your life.

Condolences, and stay strong.

...you have got to be shitting me.

I'm breaking my neck trying to just break onto the level y'all naturally reside in - just trying to be a tad more normal - and you're giving me shit because you jimmies got rustled over getting asked a fucking question about your extensive education?

"More neutral language".

Lemme break it down for you.

"You lay out quite a lot of experience". Premise. Expression of admiration for knowledge.

"Did you read about all of this?". Question.

"I seem to remember your official education being something in design and/or construction and/or engineering". Reason for questioning.

"More neutral language" my ass. Turn this more neutral - you'll end up with binary. Have to tiptoe around your landmine already just to get a fucking answer out of you - and that still ain't good enough.

Fuck this shit. Can't catch a break worth a dime for being myself.

You're confusing my sincere curiosity for antagonism. You're a highly-educated person whose knowledge lies beyond what the diploma might suggest. I'd like to know how you got there.

Please, don't suggest that I'm doing something out of ill intent if I ask a question - especially of you, since you know damn well what I think about you. I'm already barely talking around here to not upset people.

People do far better at a task when they understand why they're doing it. That's the reason I won't vote for forcing people to post to #newtohubski.

I would, however, vote for making primer the next step after finishing registration and including a paragraph or two about what to do next. Hubski isn't exactly common-sense for the tone set by an average Internet discussion. A bit of guidance can go a long way towards inclusion.

Speaking of the primer: mk, the primer text runs out unexpectedly at this line:

You can view all posts using the global feed. Exceptional content can be found under

Doesn't seem planned.
