That's ... just... sexy.
I lurk here. I've also been a reddit lurker for quite some time. On reddit - I kinda do use the site as an Internet(s) Front Page - I've never really engaged it as a "community" - though I obviously recognize that it is. When I discovered hubski - I fell for its design and its tone - both of which seem unique to me. The site is elegant and the community is - I want to say, "calmer" than most. That said, the primary reason that I initially returned to hubski - and then worked it into my online-routine was because of the Personal Content Isn't a Sin policy. I'm an artist - that's what I do - I've long been frustrated by the notion that as an artist I'm not supposed to speak for myself in most communities. Further that - in many places - doing so is essentially an invitation for venom. So once I found a place where I was encouraged to speak for myself without denying either my nature - or my occupation... I pretty much just lurk. #chortle This site is one of the first places I visit when begin most leisurely surf sessions - I enjoy the way this community curates topics.
That is so very cool, that right there.
A beautiful accomplishment! edit - ooh - even cooler now that I've followed the link back to see the inspiration-photo. Bravo!
Thanks for that! Every time I think of Raymond Chandler I hear Jim Carroll singing "Three Sisters" in my head. It is instantaneous. Also - I now think the phrase "spillikins in the parlor" would make a wonderful album title.
I have... that ailment... oh... indeed I do...
this made me chortle aloud
Yep... still really digging this tune.
Yes thank you
I just utterly dig this tune.
Oh my, yes.
I totally dig this. It's already stuck in my head. Thanks for sharing!
I found this fascinating. I play with audio all of the time... and yet I never would have expected this to be so compelling. Thanks!
I enjoyed that - thanks for sharing.
Oh, my yes.
I fell hard for Wilco. I began with the flick I am trying to break your heart. It documents the recording of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. I adore that record and fell immediately in love with it. I'd suggest that silentequinox described it rather nicely. Then I worked my way backward through their discography... and then forward... ever since that flick I've bought each new record as it was released. One of the band's current guitarists, Nels Cline, is one of my personal favorite players - that was just an aside. If you dig live performances - there are plenty of great videos on YouTube. I looked for a good representative link but I couldn't decide upon one. They performed a show at the David Letterman theatre that was shot a few years back (2012 maybe?)... you should be able to find it on YouTube or Vevo. I remember enjoying it through repeated viewings. Their work ranges from concise well-crafted rock and roll / country / americana type tunes to atmospheric and experimental stuff - and pretty much everywhere in between - with the lyrics usually being noteworthy - It's difficult to recommend a specific song or album. Oh... and those direction changes that @silentequinox mentioned... oh how I love those... I think I know what I'll be listening to today... ... and this is what they do when they're rehearsing:
Thanks!
Thanks for that!
So I landed here at Hubski today after seeing the site mentioned during the hoopla over at reddit, where I've been lurking silently for the past few months. As it aligns perfectly with my tastes, this was the first thread/post I opened. After reading the welcome message and the Hubski stance on personal content I'd like to submit my own work to this thread... heck... musicians don't get much more obscure than me. :D My most recent 6 song E.P. on BandCamp: http://boozemonkey.bandcamp.com/album/the-new-mythology-e-p
and SoundCloud:
My recently launched personal site:
http://SanityCheck.net
contains lyrics and details and everything for 6 Booze Monkeys records as well as other material. I recently finished a lyric video for the opening song from the New Mythology E.P. I apologize if posting my own work here is in bad form... but who knows... someone here might dig it. Obscurely yours -
