A lovely photo :)

Next year I'll make sure I can stay the whole time. I do love my job though so it wasn't too big of a bummer.

I have to wonder if that was his plan the entire time. I read in an article that he was from Switzerland and was there with his wife. Toxology said he didn't have alcohol in his system but wasn't sure about other substances.

Home sweet dump :)

I'm glad you were able to process and feel the temple in your own personal way

BLOB_CASTLE  ·  2995 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Apple is allegedly bricking iPhones repaired by third parties

I currently work at a cell phone repair shop, and have been since my sophomore year of college (approx 5 years).

Error 53 is an issue with iPhones 5s and above (the ones with the fingerprint scanner). These home buttons are married to the motherboard which is what allows iTunes/Apple to recognize if a new one has been installed.

When getting a screen replaced, there is no reason not to use the original home button. The home button can be transferred to the new screen. So why does Error 53 happen? Shoddy repair jobs.

The buttons and their flexes (flat bundle of cables) are very fragile. Even the slightest tear can render a flex inoperable. When a repair shop has to replace a home button it's because they were removing the home button too fast and tore the flex. That or they were trying to snag an OEM part, which is a shady practice.

Error 53 sucks. But if a repair shop is going a good repair, there shouldn't be an issue.

BLOB_CASTLE  ·  3474 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Hey, let's have a discussion about eating meat

For nearly a year now I've eaten hardly any meat. I've had it probably less than 10 times over the past year, and only whenever I feel like it's worth it.

There are a variety of reasons why I cut back significantly, some which have already been stated, but I'll say 'em again.

It's environmentally friendly: About 51% of all greenhouse gases come from meat. From the gas required to farm all of the food for animals to eat, to the methane created by said animals (methane traps 20 times more radiation than CO2), to the transportation of said animals and their meat. So much of this waste would be eliminated if we just ate what the animals ate i.e. plants.

I believe animals are sentient. Have you ever sincerely looked at a non-human animal and attempted to speak with it telepatchically? It's kinda eerie actually. I went to a cattle round-up the other day and saw bulls have their testicles removed. The bellows from them were proof enough for me of being able to feel pain and emotion.

Not that all meat is bad, but do you really want to eat chickens raised in this environment:

They're not sitting because their tired. They're pumped with so many growth hormones their legs can't support their weight. And since bio-magnification is a thing, that stuff seeps into you when you eat them. My youngest sister had to switch to organic milk because she began to develop when she was 4. Switching made all the difference.

But the realization that not all meat is raise in such conditions is where I"ll make exceptions. For example, my roommate last year brought home some venison his brother killed with a bow and arrow. The deer led a full life and wasn't grown for the sole purpose of being killed. It ate a natural diet. So I ate some. Another exception I'll make is if it's damn good. There's a BBQ place in Kansas City I eat at every time I go home. I feel terrible after I eat it because I've not had meat in so long that I'm no longer numb to how bad meat makes the body feel. But I do come from the school of thought of everything in moderation is a good thing. So once a year I might have some BBQ from Kansas City Joe's (formerly Oklahoma Joe's).

I don't think humans were made to be vegetarian, nor do I believe we're meant to eat as much meat as the typical American does. But with the state of affairs concerning current meat production, I'm more than content to eat my veggies. Never felt better.

That's because there was nothing wrong with it. I've been eating out of a dumpster now for about a month and I've not had so much as an upset stomach.

We have three people: the diver, the flashlight holder, and the inspector. I'm the diver, so I jump in. I dress in long pants and shoes that I leave at the door. We head to the dumpster around midnight. I search for food that's still in its original packaging while another holds the light. The inspector makes sure there aren't any tears in the packaging or that any meat doesn't seem spoiled. We put it all into a crate and then take it back home. Back home we clean everything off and perform a second inspection (which includes testing the eggs). After everything is put away we disinfect the kitchen and revel in our free food.

BLOB_CASTLE  ·  4021 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Facebook Home: Meh

There's another ad for Facebook Home I was livid about.

"We reach for [our phones] when we have a free moment." Why not try taking a deep breath and looking up at the sky or the animals around you? Wouldn't this promote a greater appreciation our planet? Instead of looking down at a screen creating an out-of-sight-out-of-mind mentality. And not only that, the definition of a "free moment" is so loose anymore. Having dinner with family or friends does not constitute a free moment. That's time to truly connect.

"More than anything, we use our phones to connect more with the people we care about." Why the hell is that? Is a letter not more meaningful? Even a damn phone call. Liking a friend's picture/status update doesn't mean shit. It takes a second out of your day and requires no thought whatsoever. If we really wanted to connect with the people we'd care about, we wouldn't even have cell phones.

"No matter what you're doing, your friends are always right there with you." When did we disillusion ourselves into believing this? No one could ever convince me that being friends with someone and accessing their profile from a phone constitutes having them "right there with you." If you want to be with your friends, be physically with you're friends. And even that's not enough. It's the combination of being physically and mentally present that results in the best form of experience.

I fear for what is to come. It seems that sooner than later, we're not going to have any thinkers if everyone is "connecting" by liking a picture of a cat.

Not a day goes by where I don't think about this tall ridge at Arches National Park. I dream about going back there everyday to feel the happiness and sense of being alive I felt there. There truly is something mystical about this place.

Miles Davis - Blue In Green This man deserved all the fame he received. He was more than the best trumpeter around. He was also tied (IMO) as the best musician with Coltrane. His time feel was always impeccable, whether playing insane bebop lines or simply a whole note.
