I find it interesting as a visualization person that they didn't rescale the color map. In the context of the usage of a long standing color scale with an audience, I can understand why you wouldn't want to rescale the color map. I wonder how long it took them to decide what the new colors are, because they are probably going to be stuck with them for a while. Also, it collides/overloads the cold colors but you probably aren't going to confuse it for -25C because of the context of the surrounding red colors (unless hell did decide to freeze over).
