I have no doubt that @kleinbl00's description is accurate. That's doubtless part of the reason that the indie scene has blown up the way it has. Why go to school and get stuck with student loan debt out the ass followed by working 60 hours per week QA testing the next Barbie game.

I mean, I've kicked around the idea of making a game, and I think it would be fun (and is probably something I'll do). But this will be something I do on the side, and I think you have to go into it assuming you'll make absolutely nothing. And I think that's part of why it works: when people make games out of passion, and not out of a committee meaning, and that tends to be something that people will respond to. Why would I spend $60 on the next Spunk-Gargle Wee Wee when I have gotten literally hundreds of hours out of $10 or $20 games?
