Here is the other side of the coin that liberals often miss: Who do you want to run an agency or department? Someone with a deep understanding of the function of that agency, who has experienced the problems with it first hand, who knows the effective people in the industry whose support can influence an industry to change?

Or do you want Betsy deVos? Or Scott Pruitt? (Or, honestly, any of Trump's other appointments?)

There are a small number of people who know complex industries well.

Their experience is valuable both within the industry, and at the regulatory agencies that govern those industries.

So rail against skilled people doing jobs they know well, but the Tea Party and the Freedom Caucus have both proven that when you bring in outsiders, they are completely ineffective. The learning curve is simply too steep for a neophyte to come into a role and learn the entire market they control, within the few years a President is in office.
