Find a job you don't hate, fuck the paycheck.

This is true as far as it goes. But just know that certain decisions in life mean this is less an option. Having kids comes readily to mind. As a father, few things get under my skin more than people telling me not to worry about money and to do what I love. (To be clear, I know this wasn't your intention. For where you are in life, it's undoubtedly true.) I've looked at some jobs that might be more fun, but that would be a 50% pay cut. If it were just my wife and I, that'd be doable. But having to keep another human fed, clothed, and cared for while I'm at work means financial security gets weighted differently. I'm really only saying all this because I'm beating my head against this particular wall, although my job is just inoffensive rather than actively terrible. Progress!

As an aside, I have an odd relationship with Ohio. I've never lived there, but I did have my first, shall we say, "contact" with a member of the opposite sex there. I ended up in a long-distance relationship with a girl who went to OSU (this would've been around 2001-02). We met at a concert, kept in touch, and I went back out there a month or so later. It was a surreal experience ... she was a creeper magnet (I'm not sure to what extent I was the exception), and everything in her life just felt off. She was also not 100% stable, so thankfully the relationship didn't last especially long.
