I am currently visiting Israel and had a chance to talk to some people about the recent U.N. move.

The majority of Jews I talked to (a strong bias towards left wing) see this decision as something very important and necessary. The public however reacted rather negative. This is (in my opinion) due to the strong control of the right-wing on the media. Israeli media was basically blasting into all directions that this was an anti-israeli step and calling it a "revenge move" of Obama towards Netanyahu due to his actions such as speaking in front of congress without asking Obama before doings so in May 2015.

I have a similar view as the left-wing in Israel and think it was very important. However, it is way too late. This could have been done a long time ago, like the veto the US put on this 2011 UN security council draft. Many Israelis believe that Trump is going to be a much better supporter to Israel, something that I actually fear. His choice for US ambassador in Israel is basically a super right wing guy that makes Netanyahu look like a leftist in comparison or his choice for Special International Negotiations is very worry-some.

Scary, it will become.
