Bullshit I'm Reading

Snorri Sturluson's Prose Edda. I don't know why. Norse/Scandinavian stuff is interesting to me all of the sudden. I was talking to Dala the other day about reading aloud to each other as mentioned on here and she likes the idea. She's a huge fan of the "Myths and Legends" podcast and I told her some of these original works can be fun to read, although a chore. It wasn't until I started reading this particular one myself that I remembered how much a chore it can actually be. These things are often dense with information yet light with fluffy details. How poets and storytellers of the past could remember these things is a mystery to me. As an aside, anyone who's read The Hobbit might recognize a few names in these verses . . .

And these, says the Vala, are the names of the dwarfs:

    Nye, Nide,

    Nodre, Sudre,

    Austre, Vestre,

    Althjof, Dvalin,

    Na, Nain,

    Niping, Dain,

    Bifur, Bafur,

    Bombor, Nore,

    Ore, Onar,

    Oin, Mjodvitner,

    Vig, Gandalf,

    Vindalf, Thorin,

    File, Kile,

    Fundin, Vale,

    Thro, Throin,

    Theck, Lit, Vit,

    Ny, Nyrad,

    Rek, Radsvid.

But the following are also dwarfs and dwell in the rocks, while the above-named dwell in the mould:

    Draupner, Dolgthvare,

    Hor, Hugstare,

    Hledjolf, Gloin,

    Dore, Ore,

    Duf, Andvare,

    Hepte, File,

    Har, Siar.

But the following come from Svarin's How to Aurvang on Joruvold, and from them is sprung Lovar. Their names are:

    Skirfer, Virfir,

    Skafid, Ae,

    Alf, Inge,

    Eikinskjalde,

    Fal, Froste,

    Fid, Gunnar.

Shit I'm Playing

Dala and I are sharing a character on Skyrim, keeping a journal next to the bed where we record what we did and why, so either one of us can pick up the game and know what's going on. We've only been doing it since Christmas, but so far it's been fun.

Shit I'm Doing This Week

Meeting up with an old coworker for lunch today. I'm looking forward to seeing her, we like to complain to each other about jobs and job hunting and it's fun.

Later this week, I'm heading down to the comic shop to purchase all of the books backing up my pull list. I need them in my library for reasons, but I'm feeling kind of blah about comics lately. And movies. And video games. And music and books and a lot of stuff. I kind of just want to go to the park and sit.

Weirdness

Three different people, none who know each other, have all independently shared with me this month of their dreams of selling everything they own and buying a van or RV and going across the country aimlessly. One, that sounds totally awesome. Two, I'm half tempted to get them all talking to each other just to see what happens. Three, I'm curious as to how they all independently came to this idea on their own, at the same time. Is there a book or movie coming out that I don't know about?

Edit: Also, my internet time has dropped down significantly. I'm almost never reading the news now, nor am I on Reddit anymore. My Hubski comments have dropped by a third, same with my posts and shares. I'm trying to get out and do more, but it doesn't feel like I'm getting anywhere. General thoughts on the matter are more than appreciated.
