Although I wouldn't support such a policy, this article has a pretty heavy bias.

However, I do wonder about using natural resources on public land for private profit. As the land and resources intentionally haven't been developed, it represents a heavy subsidy for any private entity that does develop them, regardless of whether or not they are profit-sharing with the U.S. government.

Regardless, developing even more oil supplies isn't going to give the U.S. much of an advantage.
