Hmm, what do you think the consequences of Google (+ NASA) making this are? When the army wanted to develop normal computers, they partnered with universities (e.g. ENIAC @ Upenn). In some ways, this led to a wider adoption since students (and professors) could adopt, use and experiment with such technology. Similar story with the Internet too. With a private company like Google, I am curious how this technology will reach the public, if ever? Pure speculation - but I would think employees would be signing non-compete/non-disclosure agreements? All I know is that we should not innately trust these large technology companies, and moves like this in some ways terrify that super-paranoid part of me...
