The thing that always strikes me about these political wedge issues (abortion, homosexuality, etc.) is that they aren't really "Christian", in my humble and very naive opinion (I'm certainly not a studier of the Bible, and my Bible training ended when I was old enough to tell my mom she's dreaming if she thinks I'm going back to Sunday school--so maybe 8 or 9 years old). The verses that give the moral authority of the religions people in these debates are mostly all derived from the Old Testament. Here is the text of Hebrews 8:6-7.

8:6 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. 7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.

Isn't this saying that Jesus has come to replace, rather than add to, what currently existed? If there are any Christians on here, I'd like to know how this is talked about. It seems that this is inconvenient to a lot of the more conservative Christian theology.
