I've been formulating my thoughts on this movie for a while now - and though they're still not ready for primetime, this post is enough for me to say something.
The movie is terrible.
Start to finish, I never cared about a character - they had no depth. The cinematography was vanilla. The dialog was contrived. I love Leo, but just yelling a lot, swearing profusely and blowing cocaine into a hooker's ass does not good acting make. He's not terrible - he's just…. loud.
And here's the real "shame on me" of the whole thing. I read nothing about the film before I went. I figured that between Marty, Leo, and the rest of the gang, this was a surefire hit. I didn't know it was based on a real life guy. I didn't realize that the rank, misogynistic sex acts would dominate the movie. I hate to sound like a prude- but it was just so filthy and base.
I think the real kicker for me - and again - shame on me for not doing some reading before viewing this thing. I agree with the author's plea"
- I urge each and every human being in America NOT to support this film, because if you do, you're simply continuing to feed the Wolves of Wall Street.
This is a real dude. He really screwed people over. He really lived like that. And he really is not in jail, and he really is a motivational speaker, and he really isn't making full restitution, and I really bought a ticket to a movie about his life. I felt like the biggest chump when it was over and I realized I was just another sucker putting a buck in this dude's pocket. Shame on me Marty, but shame on you.
